Bent Writer's Institute's 10 Year Anniversary

I was excited to work on our biggest event yet! Three cakes, twelve dozen mini cupcakes, and an amazing vintage typewriter cake topper later - well, let's just say I am so happy with the results for Bent's 10 Year Anniversary. We offered something for most everyone with cakes and cupcakes in the following flavors: Red Velvet cake with Peppermint buttercream, Gluten Free Vanilla cake with Almond Buttercream, and Vegan Chocolate cake with Vegan Cinnamon "Buttercream." We heard nothing but rave reviews and many people came up to tell me they were the best cakes they have ever tasted.

Wish Upon A Star Cake & Cupcakes

This 5" personal cake and mini cupcakes were made for a sweet little girl turning one. The party's theme was "Wish Upon a Star" and I wanted to make sure she felt like a star with her own cake to tear into. No fondant was used on the cake so there were no choking hazards and it was easy to eat. Custom star toppers adorned the top of each mini cupcake. They were made from two sizes of stars cut out of fondant, hand painted silver and iridescent and sprinkled with sugar for extra sparkle.

Mini Air Jordans Cake

I have to say - I was nervous about creating this cake. Even though I've been an artist my entire life and a designer for almost two decades, I've never considered myself a sculptor. Designs I make myself and create from scratch are one thing, but my client asked for this specific kind of Air Jordans shoe for a surprise birthday cake. Eek! Well, I have to say I'm pretty proud of myself!

It's hard to tell from the photos, but this is one of our 5" personal cakes - which means the shoe is only about 4 1/2" long. Think "toddler shoe" but with grown-up proportions. I can't wait to tackle the next life-like project you might send my way!

Even Micheal's number "23" is represented!

In-N-Out Burger Cake

This cake takes the... well, burger! My client asked for an In-N-Out Double-Double hamburger cake and boy, did I make one! The other request was to add her husband's favorite candy - Sour Patch Kids.

The buns are made of Vanilla cake, frosted with Vanilla buttercream and topped with fondant "sesame seeds." The burger patties are made of Chocolate cake. The "special sauce" is made from Vanilla buttercream and diced up Sour Patch Kids. Other accents include fondant: cheese, tomato and onions, and Vanilla buttercream lettuce.

I just want to pick it up and take a huge bite - well, if my hands fit around it.

Twister Cake!

One of my favorite cakes yet, this was SO fun to create! I was asked to make a cake to be auctioned off at a fundraiser for a middle school. When I found out their theme was Twister, my mind raced with ideas. This was my first time sculpting people and boy was it fun. Left hand - Red!

Yakudoshi Birthday Celebration

This order was a fun challenge... I needed to show different hobbies for a Yakudoshi birthday party: Volleyball, Fishing, Snowboarding and Music - not to mention architecture and the Japanese character for "celebrate." The recipient is an architect so it seemed fitting to have a cityscape around the main cake - each building with it's own look and feel. For the mini cupcakes I made 4 sets of toppers out of fondant. I especially loved coming up with designs for each snow board and adding the texture to the volleyballs.

This was a custom flavor: Guava Cake stuffed with Guava Curd and
topped with Guava Buttercream. A wonderful, subtle flavor.

Rock Star Cupcakes

I made this mini Gibson guitar out of fondant to match the birthday boy's new guitar. It was a fun challenge to make all the details on such a small piece of editable art. Did you know you can get one custom fondant topper for a dozen of cupcakes for only $5 extra? It's a great way to make the recipient's cupcake special.

Look how small this cute guitar is!

This surprising flavor is stuffed with chocolate ganache and topped with
orange buttercream.
